What is Hospice?
It may not be what you expect. Many people think hospice means the end of life. Hospice is a service designed to make you as comfortable as possible during a life-limiting illness or end of life experience. The goal of hospice is comfort and quality of life rather than the pursuit of curative methods.
Where does Hospice take place?
While most people prefer to receive hospice care at home, individuals living in nursing facilities, hospitals, or other assisted living centers are also eligible for hospice care. Hospice is not just for those living at their primary residence.
Hospice does not mean giving up hope.
Hospice does not mean giving up hope. At times, our patients recover from terminal illness due in part to care received while on hospice. At Tender Care, we recognize the value of hope and the importance of faith.
Who pays for Hospice?
Medicare, Part A. Most people get Part A automatically when they turn age 65. They do not have to pay a premium because they or a spouse paid Medicare taxes while working. If you aren’t eligible for premium-free Part A, you may be able to buy Part A. Part A covers 100% of hospice expenses. In addition, hospice is covered by Medicaid and most insurance plans. Many people don’t realize this coverage includes the following:
• Physician consultations
• Nurse visits
• Medications
• Social Worker visits
• Medical equipment
• Other services not usually covered by
Medicare (such as grief counseling)
